Rooted to Reveal

I was thrilled with the opportunity to create art again during praise and worship for the Prophetic Conference at Tabernacle of Praise Church last weekend. Given a Scripture {Ephesians 4:11–12} as the theme, I spent a couple hours studying the passage and sketching to come up with how to convey this concept to the congregation. Saturday night was the culmination of three sessions of amazing teaching and worship. A powerful time to be a part of and witness Apostle Delores L. Kendrick, senior pastor and founder, along with the prophets working together — illuminating, encouraging, bringing joy and words of wisdom to the regular members and other visitors from the region.

Using soft pastels enables me to work quickly to start and finish the drawing during the service. I love being able to blend everything simply using my fingertips. Not messing with brushes. The first time I painted during a service I used acrylics. I found that I couldn't work fast enough. Didn't feel free enough. Mixing the paints, changing the water and not having quite enough time for layers to dry held me up. I hope to experiment more with different mediums and surfaces — depending on time constraints and various themes.
