About Passion Week

Reflection for Wednesday, 04.08 {The Crowning with Thorns}

The Scourging at the Pillar
Reading: Mark 15:1-15

Reflection: Tied naked to a whipping post, Jesus offered his back to those who beat him (Isa. 50:6). This is indeed "passion" — allowing himself to be ruthlessly "acted upon." As if crucifixion wouln't be suffering enough, he undergoes scourging with lead-embedded thongs — an unthinkable cruelty that only serves as a hideous "appetizer" for his bloodthirsty abusers.

Prayer: Jesus, your obedience continues as you offer your back to your floggers. Your loves continues, as you undergo unjust punishment to bring us peace, as you're wounded to bring us healing. Thank you that by your stripes we are healed. Amen
