The Crowning with Thorns
Reading: Mark 15:16-20

Reflection: He who will one day wear a crown of gold (Rev. 14:14), wore a crown of thorns. He who deserves the reverent homage of all nations, submitted to the mocking homage of scornful Roman soldiers. He who is destined to rule the nations with a rod of righteousness (Rev. 19:15), was struck repeatedly with a rod of wickedness, imbedding his cruel crown even more deeply into his bleeding skull. He who is the reigning King became first the suffering servant — for us.

Prayer: Jesus, we now crown you with glory and honor. We bow our knee to you in love and adoration. You endured heartless mockery on our behalf; we now give you heartfelt thanks, and look forward to the day when we'll bow before your heavenly throne. Amen.
